Fundamental changes on our planet have brought about new interest in knowing about and understanding other cultures. It is important at this period in world history that we include cultural literacy as a valuable tool for evaluating and appreciating the multi-faceted world in which we live. For centuries, different cultures have coexisted and learned from the other. America, one of the world's most diverse societies, has benefited immensely from this dynamic as it has absorbed the best of what societies throughout the world have contributed. How one culture in particular enriched the identity of the Americas and the vitality of its arts is the work of this organization.
The mission of IYCAF is to promote the development of Yoruba art and culture as it relates to contemporary arts practices in the African Diaspora. The foundation will:
* develop programs specifically designed to augment current school curriculum with both introductory and comprehensive studies of Yoruba culture
* facilitate professional artist development
* acquire resources for artist development
* stimulate public debate and increase awareness of the impact of Yoruba culture on the history and art of the Americas.
