The Art Of Ifa by Ifakolade Obafemi
The pieces represented here are the visual representation and interpretation of the sacred verses or Odu of Ifa. Ifa is the traditional religion of the Yoruba of southwest Nigeria. While the pieces may be enjoyed on a purely aesthetic level, a deeper understanding of Ifa and the culture of the Yoruba allow the viewer to enjoy the multi-level and multi-dimensional aspect of the works. Each piece tells a story or many stories pertaining to the Ese Ifa (poems) associated with the Odu.
